Newsletter 7 — Hello again, and my apologies! (Plus kitties!)

This Week — New habits are hard, whether it's being consistently active, or writing a newsletter. D'oh!

Happy Monday, Reader!

First, I hope you are doing well.

Second, my apologies for going silent. First it was the holidays, then failing to get back into a regular rhythm. I've started out several times to write a full newsletter, with actual useful content, but, well, haven't gotten it finished.

Then for the past few weeks my energies have been focused on capturing and spaying three 9-month-old feral female cats. They are adorable, but we don't need any more kittens! I got "the two sisters," Lily and Virginia, done 11 days ago, and then discovered that one of "the two brothers" is another sister, Skippy. Finally got her caught up just yesterday.

Their brother, Tiger, has a warm place to stay in the garage when he wants to be inside. (He's in line for neutering, too, but that's less urgent.)

My dojo/activity room currently has three 48" dog kennels in it, and cat toys all around. They are loose in the room, playing and napping during the day. Plenty of cat drama on their part, not much fitness work on my part.

So this is just to say hello, and that my intention is to get back on track with weekly newsletters.

New Habits Break Easily

This is how things go, especially with anything new - new habits, new ways of doing things. We start out with enthusiasm, and kill it for a while. Then something breaks our rhythm. We tell ourselves we'll get going again first thing tomorrow — or next week, or at the beginning of the month.

And then we forget entirely. Or the whole idea starts to seem unfamiliar and overwhelming. We run out of fresh vegetables and live on corn chips "until we can get to the store." We forget where we left our running shoes. Our supportive fitness friend decided to take up watercolor painting instead, and now we have no one to walk with in the mornings.

In November Michael and I joined our local YMCA to celebrate his retirement. I'm working on my strength and endurance, both for throwing in the Highland games, and for Aikido. I got off to a slow start, so set up four sessions with a trainer to get me going in the right direction. That was really helpful. But I'm still not in a steady flow yet. Getting there...

Getting Back on Track

Our next newsletter will be about strategies for getting back into a normal rhythm - something I'm definitely working on right now.

But first... Calling vets to see who can get Skippy girl in soonest. Probably a week's wait, and then two weeks of recovery. So much fun. LOL

Did you know you can read past newsletters?

If you recently subscribed, or just want to review what you've already read, you can always find the past Newsletters on the Go You Fitness site. Feel free to share them with friends, too!

Past issues are archived at my ConvertKit page, so each link on my site will take you to a ConvertKit web address that starts with "goyoufitness.ck.page".

The Book Report

Life has interfered with writing progress, too, so no news on the book. Hoping to get back to that this week as well.

Table of Contents

The Table of Contents is "in the shop" this week. The freshly-reorganized outline for the book and site will be available soon.

Release Notes

With each significant site update I post a list of changes. Check out new posts and articles, plus website updates and new feature announcements.

Thank you for being a part of Go You Fitness!

If You're Having a Hard Time...

People often engage with fitness during major life transitions: a bad health scare, divorce or death, getting clean and sober, an empty nest, job loss, a move to a new community. We start out full of determination. But even when it's exciting, change isn't easy.

If you are having a hard time you might want to know about the crisis resource links on the website. You can find them under Fitness Resources.

Please take care of yourself, and get help if you need it. 💛
